The Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC or CACGs) is a regional multi-sport event, conducted in four years by the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO). Initially, the Games were known as the Central American Games. However, the name was changed to Central American and Caribbean Games in 1935 as more nations from the Caribbean region started participating in these Games. Mexico hosted the first Central American and Caribbean Games in 1926 wherein three American nations: Mexico, Cuba and Guatemala participated. The governing organization of the competition CACSO is acknowledged by the International Olympics Committee.
 All the athletes must be entered by the National Olympics Committee to participate in the event. Athletes from 31 nations from Central America, Caribbean, and South America participate and compete in the event.
