BWF Super Series

Competition Format

• Top eight players or pairs of players (in each discipline) from Super Series standings are chosen for the Super Series Finals, held at the end of the year.
• The Super Series Premier and Super Series games award ranking points to players, based on the round a player or pair enters.
• Starting from 2007, players from the same nation are not divided in the main draw of the tournaments.
• Entries are made at least five weeks before the start of the tournament.
• A total of 32 players (or pairs) compete in the main round. Among these 32 players/pairs, only eight players/pair are seeded in each event. Each event has 28 highest-ranked players/pairs in World Ranking and the four qualifiers.
• Each Super Series tournament is held in six days, with the main round in five days.
• Starting from 2011, the top ten players/pairs of each discipline in the World Ranking are required to play in all the Super Series Premier tournaments and a minimum of four Super Series championships occurring in the full calendar year. Players/Pairs who qualify for the Super Series Masters Finals are obliged to play. An exceptional and above the normal withdrawal fees are imposed on players/pairs who decline to play.
• Exemption from the penalty is considered by BWF on acceptance of a valid medical certificate or substantial evidence that proves players unfit to participate. However, retired or suspended players are not subjected to these regulations.
• Current regulations assert that at least six umpires must be from member associations other than the host member organization and at least four BWF.
• In every three years, the BWF Council reviews the countries to host a Super Series Premier and Super Series tournament.
