Kuwait is considered as the most successful team in the Gulf Cup of Nations, winning ten tournaments out of 23 in total.
The Gulf Cup of Nations is an association football tournament, predominantly held in the countries of West Asia. The competition was founded in the year 1968 at the Summer Olympics by some Arab States in Arabian Peninsula. Formerly, it was organised by the country members of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Currently, the tournament is under AFC and UAFA. In the year 1970, the first edition of the Gulp Cup took place in which the Kuwait team won.
A total of eight teams participate in group stages where they are divided into two Pools: A and B. The teams in each pool compete in a round-robin format.
The top two teams from both the pools move to the semi-finals and the winning teams move towards the final.
The bottom two teams of the semi-finals compete for the third place.
