The Cappelle-la-Grande Open is an international level chess competition, held at the Cappelle-la-Grande in France. It stands as one of the biggest chess open tournaments of the world. It is annually organized by L'Echiquier Cappello (chess club) and is usually played in the second half of February. The competition was inaugurated and first played in the year 1985 in which 68 players participated. Waldemar Hanasz of Poland won the first tournament held in 1985.
