The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association Limited (“The WPBSA”) is the world governing body for both the sports of Snooker and Billiards. The WPBSA oversees these sports by handling and making other pro competitions apply the rules of the association.
It was founded in 1968 and hence been serving as the professional governing body and promoter of the two cue sports - billiards and snooker - alongside its amateur counterpart - the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF).
The WPBSA has four components - the World Snooker Association (known as World Snooker), World Billiards, Women's World Snooker, and the World Disability Billiards & Snooker - in which, the world snooker association is responsible for running all the major ranking events of these two sports.
