The International Handball Federation is the administrative and controlling body for both handball and beach handball. IHF was established in 1946 to oversee international competitions. Its membership comprised of 6 federations and 209 national associations. The IHF is also responsible for the organization of handball major international tournaments, notably the IHF World Men's Handball Championship, commenced in 1938, and the IHF World Women's Handball Championship commenced in 1957. Dr. Hassan Moustafa from Egypt has been the President of the IHF since 2000. It conducts World Beach Handball Championship.
