In 1996, street lugers and downhill skateboarders together founded the International Gravity Sports Association. The association was developed for administering the rules and regulation of the sport, along with fostering strong and fair will of competition among the players with complete impartiality.
In 1997, the first event of street luge was organised by the IGSA in San Bernardino, California. Since 2001, IGSA started to conduct the IGSA World Cup, which included major grand events in South Africa, Utah, Austria and Philadelphia’s X Games. The World Championships are conducted every year, where the winner is regarded as the "World Champion".
