The IPL 2021 will kick off in Chennai on April 9 with a match between Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore; the BCCI told the IPL franchises. In a letter to IPL teams on Sunday (March 7) morning, BCCI confirmed Cricbuzz's report that Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru will host the league, which will run until May 30.
The Narendra Modi Cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, where the pink ball test recently took place against England, will host the playoffs on May 25, 26 and 28, and the final on May 30.
BCCI also confirmed that the tournament would start behind closed doors, and a call for spectator admission will be answered at a later date.
In the group stage, each team will play in four of the six centres. The 56 league stage matches were split over 10 games in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru, while Ahmedabad and Delhi will host eight matches. The daytime matches will begin at 15:30 IST and evening matches at 19:30 IST.
There will be 11 doubles matches, with six teams playing three daytime matches each and two teams playing two. The BCCI also said the match list has been drawn up in such a way that each team will only travel three times during the league stage, which will last until May 23.
