American professional golfer Kevin Sutherland won the title of Charles Schwab Cup Championship 2020 on Monday by scoring a 4-foot birdie putt on the 9th playoff hole to defeat English golfer Paul Broadhurst.
This is Sutherland’s fourth career victory on the PGA Champions Tour and second Charles Schwab Cup Championship victory as he won in 2017 as well. However, this year his victory is only for the tournament title and the season champion would not be crowned due to coronavirus pandemic until next year.
Both finalists Sutherland and Broadhurst played six playoff holes on Sunday after which it became too dark to see the ball anymore. They returned to Phoenix Country Club for finishing the final of PGA Tour Champions event of the year and played two playoff holes with duelling birdies. Then in the ninth playoff hole, Sutherland hit 163-yard shot from the fairway to 4 feet and made the putt to win the title.
