Born in 1972 in Transylvania, Daniela Viorica Silivaș-Harper is a former artistic gymnast from Romania. She was the only gymnast to win a medal in every single event at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Daniela began gymnastics at the age of six and won her school championships, junior national championships and junior European championships. In 1985, the Russian authorities faked her year of birth to 1970 to make her eligible for the 1985 World Championships. In 2002, she revealed her birth year and said that she was not consulted about the same back then. In only the initial days of her career, she established herself as the leading Romanian gymnast by winning multiple championships.
Daniela became a known figure for her complex routines, technical excellence, artistic flair and charming performances. She got a severe knee injury in 1989 and underwent surgery for it in the following year. But the major setback came due to the Romanian Revolution in 1989, which resulted in the closing of the National Training Center at Deva, and she had to end her career. So she announced her retirement in 1991 and emigrated to the United States. She works as a full-time gymnastics coach now in Georgia.
