The Bukit Jalil National Stadium, located in the National Sport’s complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a multi-purpose stadium, owned by the Malaysian Government and operated by the National Sports Complex. It is the home ground of the Malaysia National football team, as a replacement of the Shah Alam Stadium and the Merdeka Stadium. The stadium was built on 1st January 1995 and opened on 11th September 1996 to host the 1998 Commonwealth Games. It has nine laned 400 metres synthetic track along with 68m x 105m grass pitch which makes it an athletic ground besides being a football field.

Trivia

The seating capacity of 110,000 makes the Bukit Jalil National Stadium the 24th largest stadium and the 2nd largest football ground in the world apart from being the biggest stadium in Southeast Asia.

Significance

Having the facility of track and field sports, it hosted the 1998 Commonwealth Games, 2001 Southeast Asian Games, 2008 ASEAN University Games and 2015 ASEAN Civil Service Games.
The Malaysian FA Cup final and the Malaysia Cup final were held at this stadium in between 2001-2010.
The 2007 Champions Youth Cup was hosted by the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Liverpool F.C. has played at this stadium during their first and second Asian Tour, held on 16th July 2011 and 24th July 2015, respectively.
In 2003 the FA Premier League Asia Cup was also held in this stadium.
The ground hosted the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup Final where Thailand became the champions after playing against Malaysia.
The stadium hosted the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup Final between Malaysia and Indonesia.
