The Uytengsu Aquatics Center is an outdoor aquatics venue, located at the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, USA. Embellished with a great range of ultramodern aquatic amenities, it is home to the swimming and diving teams of USC Trojans. It consists of two separate pools for swimming and diving. The size of the long course pool for swimming is 50x25 meters whereas the diving pool is of 25x25 meters. This aquatics center was originally constructed for hosting the Summer Olympics of 1984. It was opened in July 1983 with the name McDonald’s Olympics Swim Stadium. It was named so, as the construction was financially assisted by McDonald’s. The pool was reconstructed in the year 2014.

Trivia

After the reconstruction done in 2014, the venue was renamed as Uytengsu Aquatics Center to pay homage to Fred Uytengsu, the USC alumnus who had contributed 8 million dollars for the reconstruction.

Significance

The Diving Nationals competition was hosted by the venue in 1993.
In the year 2002, it hosted the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship which was witnessed by a large audience.
The NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship competitions were held at Uytengsu Aquatics Center in the year 2012 where the aquatics center witnessed a huge crowd of spectators.
During the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1991, the swimming competitions were held here, at which almost the entire city visited the venue.
It hosted U.S. Swimming Nationals in the year 1989.
The stadium hosted the water sports events of the Summer Olympics of 1984 and added temporary bleacher seating for accommodating more spectators.
The swimming pool of the venue was renamed in 2014 in the honour of former USC swimming coach Peter Daland and the diving pool was renamed in the honor of Sammy Lee.
