Basin Reserve

The Basin Reserve is a cricket ground which is located in Wellington, New Zealand, and this ground is mainly used for Test, First-class and ODI cricket. This is the only cricket ground that has the status of Historic Site (Category II) in New Zealand, as it is the oldest test cricket ground there. This ground was also used for events other than cricket, such as music, sports events and other social gatherings, but is now mostly used for cricket, especially for Test matches. It is also the primary home ground of the Wellington Firebirds.

The first-ever game played in the Basin Reserve was a one-day cricket match on January 11, 1868, between the Wellington Volunteers and the HMS Falcon, which was docked in Wellington. The first test match played on the ground was between New Zealand and England on January 24, 1930. The one-day international cricket was played at the Basin Reserve until 1999, after which it was moved to the other side at the vast crowd capacity Westpac Stadium of Wellington. As a one-time occasion, test match came back in the ground in 2005 during an Australian tour following a decision that the cricket pitch at Hamilton's Westpac Park was not appropriate for cricket, however, scheduled to host two more ODIs against Pakistan in 2017/18 and ODI against India in 2018/19.
