The full name of this stadium is G.M.C Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli.
Situated in the Telangana state of India, Ganti Mohana Chandra (GMC) Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad is a multi-facility arena that opened in 2003. Formerly known as the Gachibowli Athletic Stadium, it predominantly hosts football matches and has 4-lane warm-up track, 8-lane 400 meters synthetic running track for athletes and a 10-lane 100 meters sprinting track. It is owned and operated by the Sports Authority of Telangana State of India. The structure of this stadium has a unique design with a cantilever that allows the unobstructed view for the spectators.
Significance
- Although the stadium is known for football events yet the architecture of the stadium makes it eligible for hosting other activities such as tennis, running, ball badminton, kho-kho, basketball, and volleyball.
- Gachibowli Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad was also the host for the India’s biggest cycling event, TAF. The event was hosted on 26th January 2015.
- The structure of this stadium includes the corrugated metal sheets that are wrapped around the roof trusses. These sheets are in orange color and cover the edges of the trusses.
- The stadium has hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of Afro-Asian Games in 2003.
- Gachibowli Athletic Stadium has hosted the inaugural event of IIFA Utsavam in 2016.
- The services of Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana are mainly performed at the western block of the stadium. This block also have the facilities of offices and conference rooms, Public address system, VIP lounge, pantries and toilets
