Estadio Universidad Nacional Mayor San Marcos is a multi-purpose stadium, located in Lima, Peru. It was opened on 13th May 1951 and spread across an area of nearly 48,800 square meters. The stadium is owned and operated by Universidad San Marcos and was mainly used for Special Olympics in 1951 and National College Sports in 1955. The stadium is located near a famous archaeological excavation site that makes it even more popular. Since 1983, the Sports National University has been hosting various activities and games that keep the stadium busier.

Trivia

The opening ceremony of the stadium of Estadio Universidad San Marcos was attended by the then President Manuel Odria, the education minister and the chancellor of the University.

Significance

Estadio Universidad San Marcos hosted National College Sports event in 1955.
Legendary musical artists and bands such as Bon Jovi, Metallica, Lady Gaga and Blur have performed at the stadium.
The stadium also witnessed the Sports National University events in 1983.
During the renovation in 1993, the 15,00 years old bale walls were exposed from the esplanade of the western grandstand of the stadium.
