Estadio Olímpico Universitario is a much-publicised multi-purpose stadium, situated in Ciudad Universitaria, Mexico City. It was opened in the year 1952 and best known for hosting the athletic events of the Summer Olympics in the year 1968. The main architects involved in designing and making the stadium a dream come true were Jorge Bravo Moro, Augusto Perez, and Raul Salinas. An all-weather running track known as "Tartan Track" was used for the first time in the Olympics.

The first biggest event held in this stadium was the Pan American Games in the year 1955.

Significance

A huge feather serpent design in the stadium is the image symbolizing God Quetzalcoatl, a pre-Hispanic almighty.
The stadium hosted the matches of FIFA World Cup in 1986.
Diego Rivera initially planned to design the exterior and interior of the stadium in a similar pattern, but the plan was not accomplished.
Estadio Olimpico Universitario has hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in 1968 and also conducted the athletic events of the Games.
