The largest stadium (With a capacity of 54,549) of Georgia, Boris Paichadze stadium which was formerly known as the Lenin Dinamo Arena, is located in Tbilisi. Built-in 1976, it is the home stadium of the Dinamo Tbilisi and also serves as a stamping ground for the Georgia National Rugby Union team and the Georgia National Football team. It was built by architect Gia Kudiani and had been named after Vladimir Ilyich Lenin Dinamo, one of the great Russian leaders. But in 1995, it was renamed after famous Georgian footballer Boris Paichadze.

Trivia

Dinamo Tbilisi's former stadium was the Central Stadium. But the capacity of the stadium was not much that time. Thus, the demand for a bigger stadium gave rise to the construction of Boris Paichadze Stadium in 1976. It was the third largest stadium in Soviet Russia at that time with a capacity of 74,354.

Significance

Dinamo Tbilisi won the 1980-81 European Club Winner's Cup at the stadium.
The first official match was held on 29th September 1976 between Dinamo Tbilisi and Welsh Cardiff City. The host team Dinamo won 3-0 in the match.
The stadium had a record attendance of 110,000 in 1979 when FC Dinamo Tbilisi beat Liverpool 3-0 to reach the quarter-final of the European Champions Cup. This is also the maiden stadium in Soviet Russia with the highest average attendance (65000/game).
The stadium is amongst the largest stadia in Eastern Europe.
USSR National Football Team played many of their matches in this stadium.
The stadium has hosted the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Super Cup opening ceremony in 2015.
Clubs Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Kiev often play their autumn international matches at this stadium.
