In 2001, the competition included the recurve as well as the compound disciplines.

The Asian Archery Championships is an archery competition, held in the entirety of Asia in every two years. It is organized by the AAF, affiliated to the World Archery Federation. The first tournament was organized in 1980, hosted in Kolkata, India. The categories of the tournament are:

Men’s Individual
Women’s Individual
Men’s Team
Women’s Team
Mixed Team

Competition Format

Modern competitive archery is conducted by the World Archery Federation.
Participants perform in two categories: Seniors and Juniors. The one aged below 18 compete as Juniors. The competition can be held both indoors and outdoors.
There is a specific distance for indoor events while for outside it may vary.
There are two sets of rules according to rounds: Metric Rounds (WA, World Archery rules) and the Imperial Rounds (GNAS, Grand National Archery Society rules).
Archers score each end and their scores are calculated by summing the arrow’s score.
An arrow that has just touched a scoring boundary line called the "Line Breaker" or "Line Cutter" is given higher points.
