Roll ball is a popular sport, originated in the Asian region. It's a combination of basketball, throwball, handball and roller sports in which; two teams compete with each other.
Roll ball can be played indoors as well as outdoors on hard surfaces such as wooden or asphalt. The Roll Ball World Cup is the highest official competition for Roll Ball, held biennially. Today, the popularity of roll ball has reached to a greater extent as it is played in more than 40 countries worldwide.
The prime aim of the teams is to score maximum points than the opponent. The players can score points by striking the ball effectively in the opponent's goalpost with fair skills and fast speed. The primary concern during the match is to continuously bounce the ball on the ground, even during a pass.
Mr. Raju R. Dakbhade invented the sport during the early 20s in India. He used to be the champion in skating in his childhood and wanted to do something different with roller skates. Later, he discovered roll ball with the use of roller skates. In 2005, he was awarded "Raja Mantri Puraskar’" by the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh.
In 2003, Roll Ball was presented to the world where it was accepted and the International Roll Ball Federation (IRBF) was founded. Later, the game is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYOS) and Government of India (GOI).
In 2011, the first Roll Ball World Cup was organized.
The competition requires only a few equipment; such as roller skates, goalposts, playing ball and protective gears.
The main charm of the sport is that the players compete as a team wearing roller skates and score by making goals. Each team has twelve players where six players are present in the field and the rest six acts as substitutes.
