High diving, the act of diving into the water from moderately great heights can be done as an adventure sport, a performance stunt, or even as a competitive event. As a sport, it was presented at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain. The men jump from an 89 ft high platform whereas the women jump from a 66 ft high platform in the world championships.
In other recognized competitions, men dive from a height of 72–89 ft while females dive from a height of 59–75 ft. The sport is unique in its own ways as the competitors are often not able to practice in an actual environment until the days heading up to a competition.
High diving has been assigned a sport class, separate from regular diving by FINA where the high divers have achieved speeds of descent of 96 kilometres per hour (60 mph).
