Dominoes is a game played with rectangular shaped "domino" tiles. Each domino tile is divided by a line which separates the tile in two square ends. Both the squares in the tile are marked with dot or dots known as pips, dobs or nips or is left vacant. The back side of dominoes is left indistinguishable or has some common design. The gaming pieces of domino called as tiles, tickets, stones, chips or stones make up a set known as pack or a deck. The traditional Sino-domino set constitutes of 28 dominoes. A domino set is a general gaming device which is very similar to dice or playing cards, in which a variety of games can be played with a set.
Dominoes is played largely at the professional level. Many organizations and clubs of amateur domino players exist around the globe. Some federations, including the Fédération Internationale de Domino (FIDO) which is the official governing body of the game, organizes international level competitions. Darren Elhindi from the United Kingdom is the 2008 and 2009 Double FIDO domino world champion.
