Coleo is a traditional sport of Venezuela and Colombia which is very similar to rodeo. In this sport, a small group of cowboys known as llaneros sitting on horseback pursue cattle at high speeds through a narrow pathway known as manga de coleo to drop or tumble them. The game starts with the competitors and a bull or a calf locked behind a trap door. The riding area of coleo is a 100 meters long pathway with high guard rails open at the other end.
At first, after the judge’s signal, the calf is set loose and starts running. A few seconds later the riders are released and started racing to grab the calf by its tail. The rider who does this successfully will increase the speed and drag the calf until it stumbles. The aim of the sport is to finish this in the shortest time.
