Chilean Rodeo is the national as well as the most practiced sport of Chile since 1962. In this game, a team (collera) of two riders (Huasos) and two horses ride laps around an arena and try to stop a calf by pinning it against large cushions. The sport is very popular in the rural areas of the country. Points in the sport are earned every time the steer is properly driven around the corral but with deductions for faults. The sport takes place in a crescent-shaped corral known as a medialuna having a radius of 20-25 meters. Chilean Rodeo was originated in the 16th century but begins to get regulated at the end of the 17th century. The first National Rodeo Championships took place in 1949 in the city of Rancagua and has been held every year since then.
