The charro outfit includes lightweight short boots called botines, spurs, belts, belt buckles, fancy hand-sewn pants, leather chaps, bowties, hand-sewn shirts, and a Mexican sombrero or hat.
Generations and generations of a family participate in charreria matches. The adults take part in horse riding events like cala de Caballo, piales, terna, piales a pie, and piales a caballo, while the youngsters participate in fancy rope trick events like jineteo de Toro, terna, piales a pie, piales a Caballo, and Paso de la Muerte.
Women also participate in charreria event called escaramuza in which they execute daring feats and stunts while riding a sidesaddle.
Charreria officials judge the performance of participants as well as their horses/cattle based on style, execution, formation, etc.
