Carrom is a sport which can be played by any age group but if the rules are known and followed properly. The International Carrom Federation (“ICF”) drafts the international rules of carrom as it is the governing body of carrom. The organization even ranks players and sanctions tournaments.
Each set (game) is decided on the basis of a maximum of eight boards or twenty-five points whichever is earlier from the first round until the final round.
Each player is given a time limit of ten seconds for making a stroke and for placing the dues / penalties.
Players have to report to their respective carrom boards for each match five minutes before the scheduled time.
Each player is given two minutes to test within those five minutes and they need to start the game once the time completes.
Only two minutes rest within the playing area is allowed between the second and third sets (games).
The players need to make sure that only their playing arm rests on the board while striking and not any other part of the body.
The player is not allowed to move the striker or the board while striking as it is considered a foul.
In singles; the break shifts alternately whereas in doubles the break shifts in anti-clockwise direction.
When a player’s strike or turn is over, the other player is given the chance to strike.
The player needs to make sure that if the position of the striker is on the base circle then it should not touch the base circle or line of the other player.
If the striker is placed in between the base lines then it should not exceed the lines whereas if the striker is placed on the base circle then it should cover it totally and if the player does not cover it then he / she misses the turn.
Queen can be pocketed only after the player nets one of his carrom men.
If the player nets the queen before the carrom men (his / her own piece) when there are only three pieces left (queen, white and black carrom men) then it is considered as a foul.
If the player nets the opponents carrom men with the queen then the player has to return the queen, the net carrom men and as a penalty the player has to place his / her own carrom men at the center.
If the striker gets into the net then it is a foul.
If the striker and the carrom men both get into the net at the same time then it is a foul.
If there is only queen and carrom men left and the player strikes the carrom men first before the queen then it is a foul.
