To decide which player will begin the game, both players strike the cue ball to the top cushion so that it returns to the baulk. The player whose ball reaches closest to the baulk cushion decides which cue ball to use and the order of play.
Scoring
Points are awarded in the game as follows:
A cannon scores two points. Additional three points are scored if the red ball was struck first by the cue-ball or two points if the other object ball was struck first.
A winning hazard scores three points if the cue ball hits the red ball so that the red enters the pocket. It scores two points if the cue ball hits the other object ball into a pocket.
A losing hazard scores three points if the cue ball hits the red ball and then enters into a pocket. It scores two points if the cue ball hits the other object ball and then enters into a pocket.
Combinations of all the above shots may also be scored.
If the combinations of all of the above shots are played in the same stroke, then all are scored. Thus the most that can be scored in a single shot is 10 points.
Game Duration
The game lasted until one player or side reaches to an agreed number of points or till an agreed length of time.
Fouls
Breaking any of the rules is known as a foul. After making any foul, the striker loses his turn and concedes points to his opponent in some situations. Some of the acts which are considered as foul are:
Playing the wrong ball (other than the cue-ball)
Playing out of turn
Striking the ball more than once in a stroke
Striking the ball before all balls are at rest
Forcing a ball off the table
Striking the ball with something other than the cue
