Born on 16th November 1971, Aleksander Vladimirovich Popov is a former professional swimmer from Russia. He is one of the two freestyle swimmers of the world who have won four individual Olympic medals in freestyle events.
Won 2 gold medals in 50m and 100mfreestyleevents and 2 silver medals in 4 x 100mrelay and medley at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Spain.
Won 2 gold medals in 50m and 100m and 2 silver medals in 4 x 100m relay and medley at the 1996Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Won a silvermedal in the 100m event at the 2000Summer Olympics that took place in Sydney

In 1998, he added another feather in his cap by winning a gold medal in the 100mfreestyle event at the World Aquatics Championships convened in Perth.
