Pétanque Rules

• Pétanque can be played in two teams of 3 players against 3 players (triples), 2 players against 2 players or 1 player against another.
• During a triples match, each player can only use 2 boules whereas, in doubles and singles events, each player can use up to 3 boules. 
• The boules used in the matches should be approved by the F.I.P.J.P. and should be made of metal. It should have a diameter between the range of 7.05 centimetres to 8 centimetres. The weight of the boules should be in the range of 650 grams to 800 grams. 
• The boules should be entirely hollow, devoid of any fittings with lead or shouldn’t be sand filled.
• The jack used in the sport should be made up of wood or any synthetic material and have a diameter minimum of 30 mm.
• The playing area of the terrain during national and international competitions should have a perimeter of 15-meter length and 4-meter width. 
• The matches are played for 13 points, and the qualifying events are performed for 11 points to win. 
• The players are required to maintain position inside the circle which are provided by the organizing committee. The circles drawn should be more than one metre from the obstacle and should be at least two meters away from any other throwing circle. 
• Any team which is going to aim the jack is required to erase all the throwing circle marks in the nearby place that it wants to use.
• The jack must be at least 1 meter away from any obstacle, including the nearest boundary of the established Out of Bounds area.
