Samara Arena, also known as the Cosmos Arena, is one of the newest built arenas of Russia that has been selected to host the FIFA World Cup matches of the year 2018. The stadium is located in the North-Western part of Samara, Russia and is owned by the Samara Oblast Government and operated by the native football club FC Krylia Sovetov Samara. The total area of this arena is 160,498.10 m², having a VIP box capacity for 1,125 spectators and 75 premium seats. The design of the metal dome of the stadium is inspired by space exploration. The design tender was announced in late 2012 with an estimated amount of $320 million. The outline of the stadium resembles a spacecraft.

Significance

The stands of the stadium provide special observation areas for disabled spectators, offering space for wheelchairs as well as accompanying persons.
The south-west area of the stadium is called the Radio Center which was built in 1949.
The stadium has a diameter of 330 m which is greater than the diameter of Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
The natural grass field is equipped with an automatic irrigation system.
The stadium has four levels: the top and the bottom levels have open stands whereas the two levels of covered skyboxes are situated between them.
