The Public Auditorium, popularly called the Public Hall, is a multi-purpose facility located at the civic center district of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The public hall was planned and funded before the World War I, but its construction did not begin until 1920. The facility was inaugurated in 1922. The stadium has been designed by City architects and planners, J. Harold McDowell and Frank Walker of "Walker and Weeks". The building was built in the neoclassic style and was one of its kinds at the time of opening, having a seating capacity of 11,500. The facility houses two separate venues. The venue also has an exhibition space below ground. However, it was uninviting, with an asphalt floor and more than 40 columns. The venue underwent a significant renovation phase in between 1983-1987.

Trivia

The Public Auditorium is highly advanced regarding its architectural designs and was looked upon as a model for the design and construction of other public auditoriums in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The Venue was the largest convention hall in the United States at the time of its inauguration. Also, the venue was initially constructed without any columns.

Significance

The Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament was held in the auditorium in 2000.
The annual induction ceremonies of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have taken place in Public Auditorium in 2009, 2012 and 2015.
In 2014 February, the Public Hall hosted the FED Cup Series event between the United States and Italy.
The Public Auditorium served as the home court for the Cleveland State Vikings men's basketball team between 1981 and 1989.
In March 2014, the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships was held in the facility.
