The Olympic Stadium is locally known as the 'Olimpiyskiy Stadium' or 'The Olimpiski Stadium'. It is an indoor arena, situated in the Moscow city of Russia. The stadium was built for the Summer Olympics of 1980 to host basketball and boxing events. The stadium is divided into two separate stages. It has two Olympic size large pools. The venue can accommodate up to 80,000 people comfortably and a maximum of 16,000 people for televised events.

Trivia

For basketball or tennis events, only one-fourth of the floor space is used. The capacity for each event varies from 10,000 to 16,000 people.
It is the world's first Indoor Bandy arena.

Significance

The stadium hosts the famous "Kremlin Cup" tournament.
Bandy World Championship, the first indoor meet was played here in 1989. It again hosted the Championship in 2008.
The arena hosted the 1999 FIBA Euro Stars game.
Australian singer Kylie Minogue performed here on 16th June 2008 as part of her KylieX2008 (concert tour).
The stadium was the base for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009.
Russian metal band "Aria" performed here on its 25th Anniversary concert which was a full sold out show.
English singer Roger Waters played a show on 23rd April 2011. It was the most expensive show staged on Russian soil.
American singer Madonna performed during her "MDNA Tour" on 7th of August 2012.
American punk rock band "Greenday" performed at the arena on 21st June 2013. It was their first performance on Russian soil.
The 2013 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held here in between 17–23 April 2013.
