York Racecourse is one of the biggest racecourses of Britain, located in York, North Yorkshire, England. Regarding the total prize money offered, York racecourse has been ranked as the third largest in Britain. The race course is situated in the southwest part of the city, on an area renowned as Knavesmire since pre-medieval times. Due to this reason, this race course is also known as Knavesmire. The architect John Carr built the round shaped racecourse in 1754. The two prime stands named as Melrose Stand and Ebor Stand were constructed in 1989 and 2003, respectively. The late 20th century noticed a big progressive development in the facility of the race course.
