The stadium is considered amongst the loudest venues in the country. During a game against Florida in the year 2001, the announcers of ESPN indicated that they had to shout within the press box to hear each other.

This stadium is popularly referred as “The Cock Pit” by the local media houses and Gamecock fans.
A well-known football stadium, situated in Columbia, United States, considered as the 20th largest football stadium in the NCAA and is located adjacent to the famous Carolina State. The stadium was built in the year 1934 with the support of Works Progress Administration funds and was named as Columbia Municipal Stadium. In the year 1941, the stadium was renamed as Carolina Stadium. Eventually, it has got its present name. The construction of the stadium began in the month of May in 1934 and completed in October of the same year, specifically designed by Robert L. Sumwalt. It is the home of South Carolina Gamecocks, a college football team of the University of South Carolina.
Significance
- The Annual Palmetto Capital City Classic between the Johnson C. Smith University and Benedict College was held in this venue till the year 2005.
- This stadium hosted a large event in 1987 when Pope John Paul II during his Papal visit to Columbia addressed 60,000 people in this stadium.
- Guns N’ Roses and Metallica have performed in a major event on 7th September 1992 in this stadium.
- The well-known Irish rock band U2 performed at the Williams-Brice Stadium on 23rd of September, 1992.
- Paul McCartney performed along with his band during the New World Tour on 7th May 1993.
- The British Rock legends performed in this stadium on 25th of September, 1994.
