The Weserstadion is a gigantic stadium, located in Bremen, Germany, used to host different types of sporting events. It is located on the bank of the River Weser, having lush greenery all around it and is only a couple of kilometers away from the city center. It is the home stadium for the German football club Werder Bremen. Earlier, the stadium had the capacity for 42,500 people. Later on, in the year 2002, the number was increased to 60,000. Many legendary performers and bands such as Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, and Metallica have performed in this stadium. Originally, the stadium had an athletic track, which was removed in the year 2002 when the pitch sunk by more than 2 meters. In the year 2004, four separate office towers were constructed on the rear of the North Stand. Offices for local companies and clubs are located in these towers.

Trivia

During the Second World War, the Nazis stationed their anti-aircraft guns in this stadium.
In the year 1935, this stadium was taken over by the Nazis and from the following year, it was primarily used to organize different types of political programs.

Significance

UEFA Euro qualifying match was played here on 27th February 1980 between Malta and West Germany.
In November 2014, the UEFA Euro Qualifying match was scheduled to be played at this stadium but was conducted at Frankenstadion, another stadium located in Nuremberg.
A friendly match between the two behemoths of European football (Germany and France) took place at this stadium in which France won by 1-2.
This stadium was the venue for a musical concert in which the king of POP Music Michael Jackson performed.
The FIFA World Cup qualification match between Ukraine and Germany was played in the year 1997.
