Trivia
-
After hosting the FIFA World Cup, Volgograd arena will serve as the home ground of FC Rotor Volgograd club.
Volgograd Arena is one of the most recent built football stadiums of
Russia to host the
FIFA World Cup of 2018, for the first time in the country. Constructed on the site of
Central Stadium, near the
Volga River, it has been beautifully designed by a
Moscow-based company
Sport-Engineering. There are
2,280 seats in the
media box,
640 seats in the
VIP box, and
460 seats for others. One of the highlights of the arena is its large circular roof, designed in a
bicycle wheel pattern that rests on a cable frame and is made of
steel-
wire cables. The stadium will be equipped with latest
security systems including
metal detectors,
indicators of
hazardous liquids and
explosives to host sports events.
Significance
- The arena has been designed in a shape of an overturned truncated cone, having a diameter of 303 m and height of 49.5 m.
- The services at the stadium include 42 elevators amongst which 24 are adapted for people with disabilities.
- The stadium also has audio descriptive commentary system for people who are visually impaired or blind.
