Volgograd Arena is one of the most recent built football stadiums of Russia to host the FIFA World Cup of 2018, for the first time in the country. Constructed on the site of Central Stadium, near the Volga River, it has been beautifully designed by a Moscow-based company Sport-Engineering. There are 2,280 seats in the mediabox, 640seats in the VIP box, and 460 seats for others. One of the highlights of the arena is its large circular roof, designed in a bicycle wheel pattern that rests on a cable frame and is made of steel-wirecables. The stadium will be equipped with latest security systems including metal detectors, indicators of hazardous liquids and explosives to host sports events.
Trivia
After hosting the FIFA World Cup, Volgograd arena will serve as the home ground of FC Rotor Volgograd club.
Significance
The arena has been designed in a shape of an overturned truncated cone, having a diameter of 303 m and height of 49.5 m.
The services at the stadium include 42 elevators amongst which 24 are adapted for people with disabilities.
The stadium also has audio descriptive commentary system for people who are visually impaired or blind.
