The Vasil Levski National Stadium was initially built for football (soccer). However, it hosts various other sports activities such as basketball, table tennis, fencing, aerobics, artistic gymnastics, boxing, and entertainment events.

The stadium has also witnessed the performances of various famous superstars such as Lepa Brena and Madonna. Various bands such as Manowar, Metallica, and Rammstein have already performed at this stadium.
Located at Boulevard 'Evlogi i Hristo Georgiev' 38, 1164 Sofia, Bulgaria, the Vasil Levski National Stadium is the second largest stadium in Bulgaria. Named after the Bulgarian National hero and the legendary Vasil Levski, the stadium has around 43,230 seats. The construction of Vasil Levski National Stadium was completed in the year 1953 after which it was officially opened on 5th July in the same year. Initially, only the lower tiers of stands were built, providing only 42,000 seats. The capacity was expanded to 43,000 in the year 1966 when it was extended by constructing the upper tier which is almost double the height of its original height. Also, the floodlight towers were added in the 1960s. It was then renovated in 2002.
Significance
- Around 54,000 people attended the concert of American superstar Madonna, held on August 29, 2009.
- The Vasil Levski National Stadium hosted the athletics competition just after its inauguration in July 1953.
- The first football match after its opening was a friendly match played between the reputed Dinamo Sofia and F.C. Wien.
- In the year 1957, the stadium hosted the European Basketball Championship.
- Lepa Brena, the Yugoslav superstar performed on July 24, 1990, before the crowd of 110,000 people which is counted as the most successful concert held at the stadium as well as in Bulgaria.
- On 25th September 2015, Slavi Trifonov performed at this stadium in front of 70,000 people.
