The Turner Field, a famous baseball stadium is situated in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Earlier, it was named as Centennial Olympic Stadium in 1996 and served as the centerpiece of the 1996 Summer Olympics. But later on, it was transformed into a baseball field to serve as the home ground of the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). Since then, it continued to be the home ground for MLB from 1997 till 2016. The stadium is owned by the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority and operated by the Atlanta National League Baseball Club Inc. It was designed and constructed by the structural engineer Thornton Tomasetti and Atlanta Stadium Design Team. The fileld was officially opened in 1997, and since then, has hosted numerous premier baseball matches such as NLDS, NLCS, World Series 1999, NL Wild Card Game 2012, and 2000 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. It can support a spectator base of almost 49,586. The stadium comprises of 5,372 club seats, 64 luxury suites, and 3 party suites.

Trivia

It was closed after the ultimate game of the Braves team on 2nd October 2016 only to be renovated by the Georgia State University by renaming it as Georgia State Stadium. The final ownership of the baseball park was taken by the Georgia state on 5th January 2017.

Significance

The stadium has initially hosted the 1996 Summer Olympics followed by the 1996 Summer Paralympics.
The first game was played on 4th April 1997 where the Braves defeated the Cubs team by 3-4.
The stadium witnessed the memorable victory of Braves winning in the final game beating Detroit Tigers by 1-0, the last and final run being scored by Adonis Garcia.
It also served as a concert venue where popular music artists such as Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Metallica have performed.
The venue welcomed the recorded number of spectators (54,357) on 5th October 2003.
The Longest game played at the venue was between the Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
