The Stadio Olimpico, the largest sports facility in Rome, Italy, is located within the Foro Italico sports complex. The stadium belongs to the Italian National Olympic Committee. The primary sport played here is football. This is the home stadium of Serie A clubs S.S. Lazio and A.S. Roma. The stadium also hosts the final of Coppa Italia. It was reconstructed before the 1990 FIFA World Cup and has been rated as a category four stadium of UEFA. So far, Four European Cup Finals have been conducted here, the latest of them being the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final. Other than football, the stadium also hosts Rugby matches. The national stadium of Italy, occasionally, hosts concerts and events. This football stadium is the second stadium in Italy to have the most number of seating capacity.

Trivia

The stadium had a capacity of 100,000 when it was first inaugurated in 1953. After multiple renovations, the capacity reduced to 73,261.
Initially, the Stadio Olimpico was called the "Stadio dei Cipressi".

Significance

This stadium saw the first-ever win of the Italian Rugby team triumphed their first win at the stadium in the 2013 Six Nations Championship against Ireland.
It is supposed to host the 2020 UEFA Euro Championships.
The stadium has hosted a total of five matches of the 1990 World Cup. One amongst them was the final between West Germany and Argentina.
During the 1960 Summer Olympics, the stadium hosted the opening ceremony, closing ceremony and the athletics competitions of the event.
It has also hosted many editions of the Italian Championships of Athletics.
It also hosted the 1975 Summer Universiade.
The World Athletics Championships of 1987 were conducted here.
It also hosted the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final between Barcelona and Manchester United.
