While the lower bowl of the stadium is constructed of concrete, the upper bowl is constructed of galvanized metal. The Red Bulls chose galvanized metal for the top bowl so fans could make more noise by stamping their feet.
The Red Bull Arena is located on a waterfront in Harrison in New Jersey and is primarily a soccer stadium. It is home to the New York Red Bulls of the Major League Soccer. Located to the West of lower Manhattan, the arena has a seating capacity of 25,000. Amongst all the Major League Soccer stadiums, the Red Bull Arena has been ranked on the fourth position. It is famous for its partial transparent roof that gives a ravishing look. The construction works commenced on 3rd January 2008 and took two years to complete. It finally opened to the spectators on 20th of March 2010, designed by Rossetti Architects.
Significance
- The first international match was played between Turkey and the Czech Republic in March 2010.
- On July 27th, 2011, Manchester United played an MLS All-Star Game against the home team New York Red Bulls.
- The first official game in the stadium was held on 27th March 2010 which was the MLS season opener against the Chicago Fire. The Red Bulls won the match by 1–0. Joel Lindpere of Red Bulls team was the first player to score a goal at the arena.
- The inaugural match was played on 20th March 2010 where the Red Bulls played against the Brazilian club Santos FC. The home team won the game by 3-1 in front of a jam-packed crowd.
