This stadium of Seville, Spain is a much-publicized football ground that was built to compensate the small and old stadium Estadio de Nervion. The name of this stadium as the natives know is “La Bombonera”. Built in the year 1955, it was officially opened in the year 1958, on September 7. The stadium is designed by architecture firm James Cox and Manuel Munoz Monasterio. It is owned and controlled by Seville Futbol Club that has been playing here since 1958.

An interesting fact about this arena follows that the Spanish National team has never lost a match in history against any international team on this ground.

Significance

The stadium is named after the President Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán who initiated the construction but died before it was finished and in his honor, his successor named the stadium.
Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán was the host for FIFA World Cup in the year 1982, having the semi-final match between France and Germany.
The first match here in this stadium was played between Seville FC and Real Jaen.
The second tier was added in the stadium in 1974 that increased its capacity to 70,000.
This stadium also witnessed the final match of European Cup in the year 1986, played between Barcelona and FC Steaua.
