Palais des Sports, formerly known as Le Stade Olympique de Glace, is an indoor Ice-hockey arena which is situated in Paul Mistral Park in the city of Grenoble, France is also known as Palais des sports Pierre Mendes. The stadium serves as an indoor hockey arena and has a vaulted roof structure which was built during 1966-67. The architects involved in designing the structure of the stadium are Robert Demartini and Pierre Junillion. The stadium was built for the Winter Olympics in 1968. At present, it has been used for sports and cultural activities. The arena can accommodate a total of 12,000 spectators.

Trivia

The 1985 edition of Six days of Grenoble (a cycling event) was canceled as fire ravaged the roof of the stadium.

Significance

The stadium was named after French statesman Pierre Mendes France. It was known as Palais Des Sports since the year 1982. Earlier, it has been called the Ice stadium due to the figure skating events been conducted here.
The final matches of the Winners’ Cup were held in this stadium in the years 1985 and 1988.
During the Winter Olympics in 1968, the stadium hosted the figure skating events and a few ice hockey games.
The final match of Davis Cup was played here in November 1982.
During the tour in 1996, prominent artists such as Bob Dylan, Elton John, Snoop Dogg, and Mylene Farmer have performed here.
The closing ceremony of the 1968 Winter Olympics was held here, presided by the then Prime Minister Georges Pompidou.
In 2015, Snowboard Garden Festival was conducted here.
The stadium hosted the final of the 1979 FIBA European Champions Cup infront of 15,000 audience.
