The Neyland Stadium is a sports stadium, situated in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. It is used to host sports events of a large scale and for the National Football League (NFL) exhibition games. The construction started on 21st March 1921 and took around six months to complete with an expense of $42,000. The ground was opened to the spectators on 24th September 1921. It underwent multiple renovations in between 1926-1996 and between 2006-2010. The chief architect who renovated the Neyland Stadium is McCarty Holsaple McCarty. The stadium has been the home for the Tennessee Volunteers of the NCAA since its opening year and is owned and managed by the University of Tennessee.

Trivia

The stadium was formerly known as the Shields-Watkins Field from 1921 to 1926. Later, it was renamed Neyland Stadium in honor of Robert Neyland, the former head football coach of the University of Tennessee.
It is the second-largest stadium in the Southeastern Conference, the fifth-largest stadium in the U.S. and the sixth-largest stadium in the world.

Significance

The stadium also played host to the Tennessee vs. Georgia which was held here in the year 2005.
American popular music group "The Jacksons" performed here as a part of their Victory Tour, in August 1984.
The Tennessee Volunteers beat Southern Miss by 19-16 at the stadium in 2000. Around 108,064 spectators witnessed the victory.
The LSU vs. Tennessee match took place at the stadium in the year 2001.
The match between South Carolina and Tennessee was held at the Neyland Stadium in the year 2003.
