Nakayama Racecourse is one of the significant horse racecourses in Japan. Nakayama’s racing calendar is similar to that of Tokyo racecourse, and they hold race meetings alternately. It has a seating capacity of 165,676. Nakayama racecourse houses two grass courses: the dirt course and the jump course. The dirt course is 1493 meters (7/8 mile + 278 feet) long; with a 1200m chute whereas the jump course is unique as several different configurations are used. In all the races conducted here, the horses must drop and climb over steep embankments at the end of the course.

Trivia

Cherry trees that are lined up to the fourth corner add color to the arena.
Every December, a gigantic Christmas tree is decorated with around 40,000 lights, attracting a huge crowd of tourists.

Significance

Nakayama’s steeplechase course is one of the most difficult in the world.
Nakayama is full of comfortable amenities to enhance the enjoyment of the race. It houses automatic betting points, a shopping plaza, a multipurpose media hall for visitors.
The Grand Prix Road here is an excellent spot for close line up views of jockeys and horses on their way from the paddocks to the tracks.
The venue hosts major races such as the Sprinters Stakes (G1), Arima Kinen (The Grand Prix) (G1), the Nakayama Grand Jump (J-G1) and the Nakayama Daishogai (J-G1).
