This is the first arena in the United Kingdom to have the Twin Ice Pad facility and the Centre of Excellence for Ice Sports.
The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham is a multi-purpose indoor stadium and center of excellence for ice sports, situated in the National Ice Centre in Nottingham, England. The construction work to build this marvellous piece of architecture began in 1993 and took seven years to complete. It was opened to the spectators on 1st April 2000 by an Olympic gold medalist Jayne Torvill in an official ceremony. The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham is owned by Nottingham City Council and has been operated by Nottingham Ice Centre Ltd. The arena was known as the “Nottingham Arena” from the year 2000 to 2008. It has hosted over a thousand concerts, comedy acts, sports events and family shows since its opening.
Significance
- Queen Elizabeth II visited the arena on 31st July 2002.
- The stadium has been playing host to Premier League Darts since the year 2007.
- The American Band "The Killers" performed at the arena in the year 2009 which was marked as the fastest selling show, all tickets being sold in an hour.
- The arena witnessed Australian singer Kylie Minogue’s performance in October 2014 as part of her "Kiss Me Once Tour".
- "The Who", the famous English Band performed here in December 2014.
- The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was held in the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham in September 2012.
- The arena also hosted the EM-Con (the East Midlands TV and Film convention) event in April 2017.
- The Irish Boy Band "Westlife" has performed 20 shows at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham in between 2001-2012.
