The Madras Motor Race Track was formerly known as the Irungattukottai Race Track and is a permanent motor racing track, located in Irungattukottai, Chennai, India. The construction of the track started in the 1980s and it was inaugurated in 1990. The venue is owned by the Madras Motor Sports Club. It is the first permanent racing circuit in India that has given rise to motorsports in the nation. It is certified by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme and the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). All kinds of motorbike sports and cars are conducted here after resurfacing the tracks in 2007.

Trivia

The FIA granted the Grade 2 license to the race track in 2014 that enabled it to host major races.

Significance

The venue has two tracks – a full-length track and a short club track. The longer track has 10 major curves along with several minor ones. The smaller track of length 2.1 km is used for shorter events. There are three straights within the main track.
Some popular events hosted here are the MRF Formula 1600 Series, MRF Formula 2000 Series and Volkswagen Vento Cup.
Over the past few years, the venue had undergone several renovations in which some Armco barriers, kerbs, run-off areas and even advanced race control room have been added.
