The King Abdullah Sports City is a multi-use stadium and sports city, situated to the north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It has been nicknamed as 'The Shining Jewel' and often referred as 'The Jewel'. The construction work began in 2012 and took two years to complete with an expenditure of $560 million. It opened its gate to the spectators on 1st May 2014. The stadium is owned by Saudi Aramco and operated by Saudi Aramco Al Muhaidib Contracting Company and BESIX. Having a capacity to hold around 62,241 spectators, the main stadium is predominantly used for football events and has been serving as the home ground for Al-Ahli F.C. and Al-Ittihad F. C. since the opening year.
