It is the 44th largest college football stadium in America regarding capacity (60,454).
Located in Lubbock, Texas (United States), Jones AT&T Stadium is a part of the campus of Texas Tech University. It is an outdoor athletic stadium and also the home ground of Texas Tech Red Raiders (a football team of Big 12 Conference) since 1947. It was opened on 29th November 1947, initially known as the "Clifford B. and Audrey Jones Stadium". The architects involved in designing the stadium were Haynes & Kirby Parkhill, Smith & Cooper. The unique Double T scoreboard which is modelled in the fashion of Texas Tech's logo is placed on the roof of the athletic department offices in the south end zone of the stadium. It had a natural grass playing surface until 1970, after which it was replaced with AstroTurf. Field Turf was installed to the stadium in 2006 on which field sports are held even today.
Significance
- It features a 100 feet wide and 38 feet tall Jumbotron which has 3,800 square feet of screen space.
- On 7th August 2008, the east side of the stadium underwent an expansion and a Spanish Renaissance-themed façade was added to it. In 2013, a Spanish Renaissance-themed colonnade was also added to the north end zone.
- The Coaches All-America Game, sponsored by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) was hosted at Jones AT&T Stadium from 1970–1975.
- The home team Texas Tech Red Raiders recorded their first victory with a score of 14–6 against Hardin–Simmons Cowboys at the stadium on 29th November 1947.
- A record-breaking student attendance of 16,092 visited the stadium on 12th September 2013 during a game of the Texas Tech Red Raiders against Texas Christian University.
