Hy Vee Arena, formerly known as Kemper Arena, is situated in Kansas City, Missouri. The stadium has been named in honour of R. Crosby Kemper Sr. who was a member of the Kemper Financial clan. He donated $3.2 million from his estate as a contribution for the construction of the stadium and hence the construction work for the Kemper Arena commenced on 17th July 1972 in which an estimated amount of $23 million was spent. It was opened to the spectators after two years (in 1974). The chief architect who designed the stadium was Helmut Jahn. The arena had been listed in the National Register of Historic Places in the year 2016 to recognize the revolutionary design. It was renamed as "Mosaic Arena" as a part of an agreement to turn it into a regional amateur sports facility in 2017. Hy Vee Arena is owned by Foutch Brothers LLC and operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group.

Trivia

Kemper Arena's roof collapsed on 4th June 1979 due to strong winds and heavy rain.
The Arena had won architectural awards in the 1970s and had prominent tenants such as Kansas City Scouts of the NHL and Kansas City Kings of the NBA.

Significance

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Association) basketball tournament was held here from 1975 to 1993.
Big Eight Conference Men's Basketball Tournament has been hosted by the arena from the year 1977 to 1996.
NCAA Men's Final Four was held at the arena in the year 1988.
NCAA Women's Final Four was held at Kemper Arena in the year 1998.
The stadium hosted NCAA Regionals in the years 1983, 1986, 1992, and 1995.
NCAA Tournament’s First and Second Rounds were held here in the years 1997, 2001, and 2004.
It also played host to the Mid-Continent Conference Men's Basketball tournament in the years 2003 and 2004.
