Named after the Holkar's of the Maratha Confederacy, the Holkar stadium was established in 1990, owned and operated by the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. Having a seating capacity of around 30,000 spectators, the stadium has floodlights to host night matches conveniently along with one of the best draining facilities in India. The land to build the cricket ground was given by the Holkar family to encourage cricket in Indore. The stadium has witnessed the Ranji Trophy matches of Holkar cricket team including legends C.K. Nayudu and Mushtaq Ali. Various sections of the stadium have need named after great players such as Col. C.K. Nayudu, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Rahul Dravid, Ajit Wadekar, and Sunil Gavaskar.
Trivia
Holkar stadium was initially known as the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground but, in 2010, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association renamed it as we know today.

Significance
Holkar stadium witnessed its first IPL match in 2011 on 13 May. The IPL team Kings XI Punjab chose the stadium as its home ground in 2017 and still practice here.
Virender Sehwag recorded its third highest ODI score of 219 in December 2011 which was later on surpassed by Rohit Sharma with a score of 264.
The stadium has witnessed its first Test match in 2016, played between India and New Zealand. It was the third and final match of the series after which the stadium became the twenty-second Test venue of India. The same year, it also hosted the Ranji Trophy match.
In 2017, the stadium hosted two international matches. An ODI match between India and Australia was held on 24th September and the other was the T20 International match held between India and Sri Lanka played in December.
