Green Park Stadium is a well-known multi-purpose stadium of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh that has hosted multiple international cricket matches. The Green Park stadium was named so after a British lady 'Madam Green' who used to practice horse riding during the 1940s. Established in 1945, the stadium is also known as 'Billiards Table'. The stadium is under the control of the Sports Department Uttar Pradesh and home to the Uttar Pradesh cricket team. Situated near the river Ganga, the stadium was nicknamed as 'Woolmer's turf' in memory of the late cricket coach and player Bob Woolmer, who was born at McRobert Hospital opposite the stadium.

Trivia

Even in the current generation of digitized and LED assisted scoreboards, this is the only stadium, across the nation, to have the largest Scoreboard which is operated manually.

Significance

On 29th October 2017, it hosted its first day/night ODI match between New Zealand and India which is won by the latter. With this match it has enlisted its name amongst the stadiums that can host day/night matches.
It is the only stadium in the nation that has Students Gallery.
It has an extensive capacity of around 45,000 spectators at one sitting. It is also known as the "Modi Stadium".
From the year 1957, India lost only two matches in Kanpur and has a luck factor associated with the pitch of this stadium.
The infrastructural ends are known as the Mill Pavilion End and the Hostel End, entitled after Elgin Mill and DAV College that are situated close to the stadium.
Green Park is the first stadium in the nation which isn't owned by any association and belongs to the Government of Utter Pradesh.
